The Kerala Government, after noticing large number of motor vehicles in tax arrears, announced a relief scheme of one time settlement for closing the tax arrears vide -
G O (P) No.91/2014/Tran dated 29.12.2014.
It is an irony that, once we sold vehicles or exchange with new ones, after getting signed all the papers proposed to be submitted before the RTO for changing the ownership we do not backup it.
Most often, people do not remember all their previous vehicles registration numbers. If any accident happens or traffic violation happens, the owner in record as per the records of Road Transport Office will be liable for the cost and consequences thereof.
The Motor Vehicles Act cast duty upon the transferor also in the event of sale of a vehicle. So one cannot deny the responsibility simply saying that the transferee failed to comply the formalities.
However, this One Time Settlement Scheme is a solace in deed.
Rush to it.... the last date is 30-6-2015.
